Kruthika Shanmugam has been learning Bharatha Natyam for seventeen years. However, it wasn't until she started with Smt. Kalyani Shanmugarajah at the age of twelve that her interest was peaked. Kruthika completed her Arangetram in July of 2006. Through the Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music, Kruthika has had the opportunity to dance for many programs in Southern California, including the Archana Program in May 2005, the Survivors Charity Program (organized by Kalapeetham) in July 2005 and other Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music performances through the years. The proceeds for Survivors went to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In high school, Kruthika has played tennis. However Bharatha Natyam caused her to become interested in all types of dance including modern dance. Kruthika is currently attending her senior year in University of California - Santa Barbara. Kruthika’s plan is to attend medical school to study in the field of Oncology.
