| The Kalapeetham Dance Company is the performing entity of Kalapeetham, which was created in 2004 by Tharini Shanmugarajah. The Kalapeetham Dance Company (under the direction of Tharini Shanmugarajah) produced a benefit performance entitled “Survivors” on July 2nd 2005 for Breast Cancer Research and was an active participant in “Fashion for the Cure” on October 26th 2005, both of which benefited the Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate. “Survivors” raised $10,000, which was donated to Susan G. Komen. The company has also participated in the Archana Program in 2005 and the Sri Lanka Foundation Performance in 2006. On October 12th 2008, The Kalapeetham Dance Company presented “Water the World,” a benefit performance for charity: water, under the direction of Kalapeetham student Shilpa Gollapudi. “Water the World raised approximately $14,000 to donate to charity: water. More recently, The Kalapeetham Dance Company has also taken the initiative to invite experienced guest artists from India to offer workshops to their intermediate and senior students. |
