The Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music U.S.A. was founded in North Hills, CA in 1990 under the name of “Shiva Jyothi.”  Under the expansion and collaboration with Bhagavatalu Seetarama Sarma of India, it then became known as the “Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music U.S.A.”  Along with its origin foundation in India (in 1985), Kalapeetham now has locations in Singapore (since 2002) and U.S.A. Its main focus is to spread the art of the divine: dance and music. Kalapeetham holds the tenet, "Devotion to Chosen Art is the Highest Form of Worship."

Kalapeetham offers instruction in theory as well as performance in the Kalakshetra style and tradition. Maintaining the high standard of excellence established by Smt. Rukmini Devi, the school’s students are starting to bloom into talented dancers, with many of them performing and completing their solo dance debuts (Arangetrams). The school makes every effort to allow all its students to develop their skills as stage performers, even at a young age, with their Annual Student Program.

Kalapeetham aspires to follow this message best said by Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, “There is nothing greater in life than inspiration. If you can inspire people you are already fulfilling life, and the fulfilling of life is our goal.”
