The Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music U.S.A. was originally founded in North Hills, CA in 1990 and was named “Shiva Jyothi”. In collaboration with Bhagavatalu Seetarama Sarma of India, it expanded and was renamed as “Kalapeetham School of Dance and Music, USA.”  Kalapeetham, India was originally founded in South India in 1985. The school currently has three locations, India, Singapore and USA.  Its main focus is to spread the art of the divine, dance and music.  Kalapeetham offers instruction in theory and dance performance in the Kalakshetra style and tradition. Kalapeetham strives to maintain the high standard of excellence established by Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. Kalapeetham USA will celebrate 20 years of excellence in dance and music in 2010. The performing entity of the school, The Kalapeetham Dance Company has produced many productions supporting worthy causes, such as:

• Kalidasa’s Ritu Samhara,
• Survivors (a performance benefiting Susan G. Komen)
• Water the World - Bharatha Natyam choreography by Kalapeetham (benefiting charity: water)
• Natya Samarpanam (benefiting International Medical Health Organization)

 As Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale stated, “There is nothing greater in life than inspiration. If you can inspire people, you are already fulfilling life and the fulfillment of life is our goal."
